Casa Lucerito's story began as part of a legacy of compassion left by Ramon Lucero. Ramon, a devoted sheriff and community advocate, dedicated his life to helping those in need, his warm-hearted nature a light for those seeking hope.
Growing up in the shadow of her father’s generosity, Alma Lucero learned early on the impact of community support and resilience. Inspired by his commitment, Alma became devoted to creating a safe space where that legacy of care could thrive. After Ramon passed away, he left his family home in Las Cruces, New Mexico—a place that had welcomed countless people over the years as a source of comfort and care.
Determined to transform her father’s legacy into something enduring, Alma dedicated her life savings to remodel the family home into a safe haven for young mothers and pregnant women needing extra support. With the help of a devoted team, she reimagined the home as Casa Lucerito, a supportive housing component to the Open Wings Mentorship Program at Casa De Mi Alma. Together, Casa Lucerito and Open Wings would offer a pathway to healing and renewal, giving women the resources and support they needed to find stability and strength.
